Georgetown ISD Announces New Principal for Mitchell Elementary School

The Georgetown Independent School District named Melanie Moore as the new principal for Mitchell Elementary School during the June 16 board meeting.

Moore currently serves as assistant principal at Annie Purl Elementary and will transition this summer to lead the team at Mitchell Elementary School. Moore enters this role with more than 20 years in education as a classroom teacher, summer learning district coordinator, assistant principal, and summer school principal.

Throughout her time in education, Moore has been an advocate for data-driven learning and has led numerous initiatives, such as the “Read to Achieve” summer learning program, that resulted in end-of-year growth in reading proficiency across grade levels.

“Melanie came to us from North Carolina with strong training in school leadership, and she has immediately grasped the culture of Georgetown and our expectations to improve learning for every child,” Superintendent Dr. Devin Padavil said. “She has that unique combination of skills to support staff and lead instruction.”

Moore holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Urbana University and a master’s degree in School Administration from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Moore is excited to bring her passion for student learning to the Mitchell community. She and her husband recently located to the area from North Carolina with their four dogs. Moore also has two adult “bonus” sons.
