Standards-Based Report Cards transition to Traditional Report Cards for Students in Grades 2-5

At Georgetown ISD, we are committed to continually improving how we communicate student learning and progress with families. As part of that commitment, and informed by feedback from parents, teachers, and campus leaders, we will be transitioning elementary report cards in grades 2–5 from a Standards-Based Report Card format back to a Traditional Report Card beginning in the 2026–2027 school year.

What this Means for Families

• Students in grades 2–5 will receive report cards using traditional grading practices beginning in the 2026–2027 school year.

• Report cards will continue to communicate student achievement aligned to grade-level expectations and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

• Teachers will continue to use a variety of evidence—including classwork, assessments, projects, and demonstrated learning—to determine grades.

• Families will continue to receive updates on student progress throughout the year.

• Core content areas (Math, Reading, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies) will receive numeric grades, while courses such as PE and Music will continue to use performance-level indicators. 

Understanding Student Progress Beyond the Report Card

While report cards provide an important snapshot of student performance, they are only one part of understanding a child’s growth and learning journey. Ongoing communication between families and the teachers who support student learning remains one of the most valuable ways to gain a complete picture of student progress, strengths, and next steps.
