Transportation Highlights – What to Know As We Start a New School Year

If your child rides the bus, please see below for important updates.

Bus Route Assignments

Please check your email for your child’s bus routing information. Preliminary assignments were sent on July 31, and final route assignments will be emailed on August 13.

First Week Afternoon Delays

During the first several days of school, afternoon buses may run 30–45 minutes later than scheduled. This is normal as our drivers navigate heavier traffic and all staff work to make sure every student boards the correct bus to the correct destination.

Pre-K Student Pickup

For safety, all Pre-K students must be met at their stop each afternoon by an authorized adult with a valid photo ID. Students will not be released without this verification.

Bus Air Conditioning

Over the summer, our GISD mechanics worked hard to ensure every bus has a functioning air conditioning system. School bus AC is designed to cool the bus interior about 20–25 degrees below the outside temperature. However, factors like frequent door openings and a full bus can affect cooling. Students are welcome to bring a water bottle for the ride home.
