Spring 2026 STAAR Testing Dates

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) is a test that helps measure how well students are learning the skills and knowledge expected for their grade level. These skills come from the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), which is what teachers use to guide instruction in the classroom.

Each STAAR question is based on what students are taught in school, and the test gives a snapshot of how well students understand and can apply what they’ve learned.

STAAR also helps:

  • Show how well students are prepared compared to others across the country

  • Give schools and teachers important feedback about student learning

  • Meet federal requirements that ensure all students are assessed regularly

Who takes STAAR? Students in grades 3–8 and certain high school courses take STAAR tests in:

  • Math

  • Reading/Language Arts (RLA)

  • Science

  • Social Studies

Students in grades 3–5 may also take the test in Spanish.

All students in Texas public schools and charter schools are required to participate in STAAR.

  • April 6–17: Grades 3–8 RLA, English I, English II

  • April 13–24: Grade 5 & 8 Science, Grade 8 Social Studies, Biology, U.S. History
