GISD Seeks Community Input to Name Elementary No. 12 and Middle School No. 5

Georgetown Independent School District is seeking nominations to name two new facilities: Elementary School No. 12 and Middle School No. 5, projects that were approved by voters during the May 2024 election. 

Both projects are underway on the district’s east side, just south of East View High School, and are scheduled to open for the 2026-2027 school year. A zoning process will kick off in mid-November to establish attendance zones for the new campuses. 

“Naming a school is one of the most meaningful ways we can celebrate our community’s history, values, and people,” said Superintendent Devin Padavil. “Each name tells a story about who we are and what we stand for in Georgetown ISD. We’re excited to hear ideas that reflect the pride and spirit of our growing community.”

GUIDELINES FOR NAMING
GISD Board Policy CW (LOCAL) states the school board has the authority to name facilities using the following criteria:

1. A historical or geographical site or community

2. A local, state, or national historical event or place

3. A significant local, state or national figure

4. A person who has made a significant contribution to education in the district

If the proposed name is a historical or geographic site, the name submitted must be accompanied by a written summary and/or a description of the significance of the name.

If the proposed name is in honor of an individual, the name must be accompanied by a written rationale and/or description of the named person’s accomplishments. Each name nominated must fulfill the following criteria:

1. The nominee shall be widely respected, regardless of any partisan affiliation.

2. The nominee shall be a person of character who embodies a wholesome image that would be expected to stand the test of time.

3. The nominee shall have a background of service to the people of the district, Texas, or the United States.

The community is invited to share feedback for board consideration on the naming of these two facilities. The deadline for submission of proposed names is midnight on Friday, November 14. Nominations can be submitted online:
