GISD Announces Two New Executive Directors, New Principal

The Georgetown Independent School District announced three new hires at a monthly board meeting on June 20, 2022. Alfonso Longoria has been named East View High School Principal, Sue Harrison has been named Executive Director of Human Resources, and Kim Garcia has been named Executive Director of Technology. 

Alfonso Longoria currently serves as the Principal of Tippit Middle School in GISD, where he established a campus design team that developed a campus pathway with a focus on social/emotional, personalized learning, and campus operations. Longoria enters this new role with 20 years of experience in public school education, with over a decade spent as a campus administrator. He has served as a teacher, coach, academy director, camp director, instructional lead, and assistant principal and principal at the middle school level. 

Longoria has a Master of Education and Community Leadership from Texas State University and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science from Texas State University. He has twin sons entering fourth grade and one daughter entering second grade. 

In his new role, Longoria will be responsible for leading, supporting, and ensuring that actions support the mission of GISD and advance East View High School toward the GISD vision, including aligning systems and processes to support the implementation of the core work of designing engaging work for students.

He will begin his new role on July 1. 

Kim Garcia enters her new role with 20 years of education experience in GISD, where she has served as teacher, coordinator, and presently as Director of Digital Learning. In her current role, Garcia supervises the digital learning coaches and coordinates the district library services and the work of 16 GISD campus librarians. She was instrumental in coordinating the efforts to transition GISD to a 1:1 device district.

Garcia has a Master of Education in Technology Leadership from Lamar University and a Bachelor of English with a minor in computer science from Texas State University. Garcia and her husband Gilbert have two sons, Gideon will enter the 7th grade this fall and Gavin is a two-year-old aspiring student. 

In her new role, she will be responsible for leading the technology department and ensuring processes align with the district’s Strategic Framework.

Garcia will begin her new role  on July 1. 

Sue Harrison has more than 15 years of Human Resources experience and currently serves as GISD Director of Human Resources. Harrison’s human resource experience includes assistant director of staffing, generalist, manager, records specialist, coordinator, and director. 

She holds a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Texas State University and a Bachelor of Science in Financial Management from Clemson University. Sue and her husband Mike have two grown sons, Philip and Lucas, and three grandchildren. 

In her current role, Harrison created and managed the accommodation process for teachers who wanted to work remotely during the pandemic. Sue also managed the COVID reporting and leave process for the past two years, with over 1,200 employees contacted in 2020-21 and approximately 600 for 2021-22. Sue oversees the benefits and leaves process and has worked to improve systems and processes to help HR serve employees more efficiently and effectively. In her new role, Harrison will be responsible for leading the Human Resources team for recruitment and hiring and coordinating district HR initiatives. 

Harrison will begin her new role on July 1.
