Georgetown High School Girls Volleyball Team Earns 2022 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

On July 18, the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that more than 1,200 collegiate and high school volleyball teams across the nation had earned the 2022 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award. Among the list of the 425 award recipients in the high school girls division is Georgetown High School (GHS).

The award recognizes volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. In the 2021-22 school year, the GHS girls volleyball team maintained a combined GPA of 3.7.

“For these students to excel academically outside of everything else they have going on is pretty outstanding,” GHS head volleyball coach Jenny Richardson said. “Academics are top priority, and these students do an impressive job at maintaining that.”

Richardson has been a coach in the district since 2008, and GHS has received the Team Academic Award every year since 2012.

“Our coaches in GISD do an outstanding job of helping our student-athletes be successful in the classroom, as well as on the field or court,” GISD athletic director Jason Dean said. “I am so proud of our staff for helping lead the mission and vision of Georgetown ISD.”
